Radical honesty

How we verify contractors

We’re a local directory, not a licensing board. Here’s exactly what we check before listing a contractor — and what we don’t. We think honesty builds more trust than overpromising.

What we DO check

Active phone number
We confirm the listed number works and reaches the business at time of listing.
Active website
Where applicable, we confirm the website is live and belongs to the contractor.
Public directory presence
We confirm the business appears on Google Business, Yelp, Angi, or the BBB.
Local Treasure Valley operation
We confirm the business is locally based and serving the Boise metro — not a national call center.
Years in business
We note the year established from public info to help you gauge experience.
Removal of bad listings
Disconnected numbers, closed businesses, or credible complaints get removed promptly.

What we do NOT check

State contractor licensing
We do not verify current Idaho license status. Confirm it at the Idaho Division of Building Safety (dbs.idaho.gov).
Insurance or bonding
We do not confirm liability insurance or workers’ comp. Ask the contractor directly before work begins.
Background checks
We do not run criminal or background screening on contractors or their employees.
Quality of work
We do not inspect or guarantee workmanship. Read reviews and get multiple quotes.

Before you hire any contractor

Take these steps regardless of where you find your contractor:

1Verify their Idaho contractor license at dbs.idaho.gov
2Ask for proof of current liability insurance and workers’ comp
3Get at least 2–3 written quotes before committing
4Check their Google, Yelp, or BBB reviews
5Never pay more than 10–20% upfront on large jobs
6Get all agreements in writing before work begins
